Land Rover to shutdown Defender production in Brazil!
Brazilain Financial, Valor Economico is reporting today that Land Rover will close its Brazil Defender production line in December, and import vehicles from the UK instead.
The report said Land Rover considers that local production volumes are too low. The company's factory, run by manufacturing sub-contractor Karmann-Ghia, produces around800 units per year.
This news comes only a few months after Land Rover announced they would also shutdown Defender production in South Africa for similar reasons. Could low volume really be the reason for these closures? After all Defender is still pretty much hand built. Or are they preparing for an all-new Defender and gearing up for production in the UK?
