The 2009 Land Rover Freelander 2 makes its world debut in Geneva at the 78e Salon International de l'Automobile (March 6-16, 2008). The exterior and interior enhancements for 2009 reflect the premium character of the vehicle. High quality new materials and colours combine to create a refined environment within the cabin.

More than 76,000 Freelander 2's have been sold since its 2006 launch, with the refined and economical TD4 diesel accounting for 95% of European sales, offering customers a combined average fuel consumption of 37.7 mpg (7.5 l/100 km) and CO2 emissions of 194 g/km.

The chiselled lines and chunky good looks are enhanced by the addition of a Style pack that helps reinforce the planted, wheel-in-each-corner stance, with the addition of a further 19-inch alloy wheel available in "sparkle" silver finish and a rear roof spoiler [market dependent]. The sophisticated interior also benefits from the Style pack with the addition of a "Matrix" metallic finisher across the width of the dashboard and tactile Alcantara seat facings which combine with the leather steering wheel and trimmed door casings to further increase the material quality of the cabin.

The Style Plus pack goes one step further offering customers, depending on market, front and rear bumper aprons, side sill mouldings, mesh grille, rear roof spoiler and chrome tailpipe finishers, along with standard fit "sparkle silver" 19-inch alloy wheels.

The Style packs are not the only revisions for 2009. Improvements continue across the range with the introduction of two new metallic paint colours, Lago Grey and Martinique Blue, along with jewel like details within rear lights and clear lens side indicators.

Sophisticated materials raise the cabin quality with high-class new Dark Laurel wood-effect or new Satin Silver metallic-effect now available on the dashboard finisher, along with the introduction of a new interior colour – Almond – and improvements to the quality of the headliner material through the introduction of "morzine". Front interior map lights and load space power socket all add to the practical versatility of the Freelander 2.

"No other compact 4x4 has anything like its total breadth of capability," says Phil Popham, Land Rover’s managing director. "The Freelander 2 has set new standards in the sector, combining the advantages of a premium car – such as polished ride, accomplished performance, attractive cabin and ease-of-use – with the attributes of a robust 4x4, including go-anywhere ability, toughness, stadium seating, cabin versatility and spaciousness. We believe that no other compact 4x4 gets closer to blending these best-of-both-worlds abilities."
